A semi-professional basketball player charged with murdering a mother of five, whose body was discovered in a house fire, has been sent to a mental health facility for assessment.
Chudier Thowath Pal, 29, is accused of killing Stephanie Lee Robinson, 30, at her Ravenscar Street home in Doubleview on Saturday.
Mr Pal faced Perth Magistrates Court on Monday without a lawyer and appeared to ramble during proceedings.
He was placed on a seven-day hospital order and is due back in court on January 11.
The matter is expected to eventually proceed to Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on January 27.
Ms Robinson’s mother and aunt attended court but could not see Mr Pal due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The West Australian reports Mr Pal had lived at the Doubleview property and was previously in a relationship with Ms Robinson.
Mr Pal has played basketball for the Rockingham Flames and the Mandurah Magic.
He has also played college basketball in the US for the University of North Carolina.
